Keeping Calm in the Eye of the Storm
"Meditation is not meant to help us avoid problems or run away from difficulties. It is meant to allow positive healing to take place. To meditate is to learn how to stop—to stop being carried away by our regrets about the past, our anger or despair in the present, or our worries about the future."
Thich Nhat Hanh

Movement: Viloma Breathing

Come to a cross-legged, seated position on the floor. Rest your hands in your lap, one on top of the other. Close your eyes and inhale deeply. Exhale one-thirds of the breath, pause, exhale another third, pause, exhale completely and pause. Repeat as long as you like. Viloma breathing can be practiced anywhere, anytime you need to quiet the mind.

Meditation: Quiet the Mind

Sometimes modern life can get really loud and our mind cannot process all of the noise. The result can be panic, anger or fear. Every time we take time to quiet the mind, we have a chance to decompress so that our stress, anxiety and blood pressure can decrease. When is the most practical time of the day for you to take time to quiet your mind? When are you alone with uninterrupted time to drop out of your internal dialog? Can you commit to five minutes a day to just breathe?

"To be fully alive, fully human, and completely awake is to be continually thrown out of the nest. To live fully is to be always in no-man's-land, to experience each moment as completely new and fresh. To live is to be willing to die over and over again." -Pema Chodron

"Yoga is a dance of dealing with what is, and allowing yourself to fully experience whatever you're experiencing right here, in the moment. In life, we often resist what we don't like or don't want to do. Here, on your mat, is a safe opportunity to see what's on the other side of that. Physical asana is a measure of some higher possibility. Put your attention on what you want to have happen and be for it, and watch the magic unfold." -Baron Baptiste
